Guitar Summit at Brewery Arts Center in Carson City

The Mile High Jazz Band Association and the Brewery Arts Center present guitarists Terry Scott, Steve Hayes, and Dave Bell in a Guitar Summit on Sunday, August 12, 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King Street, Carson City.  Admission is free.

 

This special event, part of the 2012 "Jazz & Beyond" Carson City Music Festival, is designed for guitarists, students at all levels, and music fans of all ages who want to learn more about playing guitar in Latin jazz bands, big bands, and recording studios.

 

The three expert guitarists will provide music, conversation, and insights on playing guitar. They will wrap up the afternoon with a guitar jam, with guest musicians on bass and drums.

 

The event includes a raffle drawing.  Grand prize is a guitar from the Guitar Center of Reno, custom adjusted by Terry Scott. 

 

Scott, noted musician, instructor, and author, is one of the region's premiere string and guitar technicians.  He will focus on the guitar as a complete instrument, in a Latin jazz perspective.

 

Hayes, guitarist with several bands including the Mile High Jazz Band, is an active participant in jam sessions in California and Nevada.  He will discuss and demonstrate big band rhythm guitar, simple, hot and deep.

 

Bell, a graduate of Berklee College of Music, was inspired by the teachings of Gary Burton and played with Dan Hicks for more than ten years.  He will talk about the guitarist as a recording artist, blending in the studio, on stage, and on the road.
