County officials meet with NV Energy regarding recent power outages in southern Lyon County

Yerington, NV – August 17, 2012 representatives from NV Energy met with Commissioner Virgil Arellano, County Manager Jeff Page, County Public Works Director Mike Workman, Yerington City Manager Dan Newell and Steven Fulstone of Smith Valley regarding the recent power outages in southern Lyon County.

Items discussed were causes of the outages during the latter part of July 2012 as well as current status of existing infrastructure, current repairs, future repairs and upgrades, public health and safety, public and local government communications during power outages, long term planning, and claims for domestic and agricultural damages.

NV Energy was very positive and proactive in addressing the concerns and provided information that the situations in Smith Valley as well as some locations in Mason Valley are now a priority as far as providing reliable service and minimizing future outages.

On September 6, 2012, representatives from NV Energy will be attending the Board of Commissioners meeting to further discuss this issue and present a plan for resolving and preventing issues such as which occurred last July. This will be a time specific agenda item and more than likely in a workshop format. This will also will give the public the opportunity to ask questions and present concerns."
