In a quarter page ad published in the 28 October, 2009 edition of the Fernley Leader, Mr. Curt Chaffin asserts that one of the reasons he should be retained in office as the Ward Four City Councilman is for "not falling prey to reports put out by a branch of the Sierra Club," and for supporting for the Mustache Pozzolan Mine in Fernley.
Here are the facts regarding the pozzolan mine:
1. Pozzolan is a cement additive derived from…

The children that will be chosen come from needy families that cannot afford to have “Santa” bring gifts this year.

What happened at the last city council meeting was such a joke, I must tell everyone what happened particularly to those in Ward 3. This about the person who replaced Monte Martin and was the winner of the special recall election. There was a vote on a issue by the City Council. When it came to Bob Chase's vote, he abstained. The mayor pressed him by informing him he had to have a good reason to abstain. Bob Chase could not come up with one. The mayor continued to press him. He then stated a…

PERMALINK TO LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
I ran against Curt Chaffin in the last election. It was not because I thought Mr. Chaffin was dishonest or did not have the best interest of our City in mind. Nor was it because I thought he was working more for a Special Interest Group. It was because I had some viewpoints on what I believed the direction of Fernley should have…

Astronaut Needed (Northern Alberta)
(An ad posted on Craigslist, dated 10-12-09, since pulled from their site)
Astronaut needed for experimental flight to Titan. I have been working on this project now for near 40 years and am afraid I'm no longer fit enough to go.
My secret space craft is the result of my professional experience and imagination while serving the U.S. military in advanced aeronautics as a scientist.
The craft harnesses a…

Permalink letters to the editor - REBUTTAL: TO THE VOTERS OF FERNLEY
October 18, 2009
In a public debate, when your opponent stops arguing the merits of his position and instead starts attacking you personally, you know you've won the argument. There could be no better demonstration of this axiom than the whining, self absorbed diatribe published by Curt Chaffin (TO THE VOTERS OF FERNLEY) on 14…

When you walk into a 4th and 5th grade classroom at Fernley Elementary there is nothing traditional about it. You will find a laptop on top of each desk with students leaning forward engaged in their work. The fourth and fifth grade students at Fernley are involved in a 1:1 iMac laptop program. Students use the computers to create their own data tables, in math. In reading some students were developing graphic organizers to expand their comprehension…
