The canal has been temporarily dewatered as of Nov 01 2011 to prepare for necessary repair work. The Truckee-Carson Irrigation District Board of Directors held a special public meeting at 9 a.m. Wednesday Dec 14 2011 and approved a notice of award for construction on the Truckee Canal. The notice of award will certify Fallon-based A&K Earth Movers to begin preliminary construction work on the Fernley Reach. A&K was awarded the bid with a proposal of $2.5 million and beat out five other firms vying for the contract. TCID has secured enough money to begin construction, although the district is still in the process of financing all of the $5 million bond passed in August. The estimated timeline for the project is 100 days. Construction should begin by Jan 01, 2012 and complete in May.
