Bravo to those not going off on tangents and researching for answers. There is nothing worse than folks not researching or taking items out of context to try to prove a point.
I would challenge anyone against this mine to have their own naturally occurring (bug dust) as we call, it in your own window sills, tested for the same ingredients you are accusing NV Cement of stirring up causing possible dangers to the community.
I think we've all had enough of the alarmist, sensational driven paranoia in the past with city issues. We are not in 5th grade any longer folks.
My challenge is for everyone to do your own research in totality and bring it forward in a dignified manner for all to discuss.

To all concerned citizens of Fernley:

I too am concerned about the health of Fernley residents, as well as the employees of Nevada Cement Company. However, as an intelligent individual, I wanted to be informed before going off on a tangent. Doing research, I discovered this web site is predominantly one-sided, with radical opinions and not reflective of actual facts. After searching through numerous web sites, & reading the MSDS listed, I am happy to say that I didn’t find in any reports or MSDS that YOU WOULD GET CANCER living in an area where quartz, a natural mineral found through out Nevada, would cause cancer through dust generated in the mining process.
I did find MSDS reports that noted there “might,” “may,” or “could,” through chemical analysis, be a “trace” of crystalline silica found in the Processed (keyword) end product of cement. Researching the possibility of cancer in Crystalline Silica or Pozzolan, I didn’t find any irrefutable or documented cases that through indirect exposure to these minerals would result in cancer, and with a trace of less than .1% the chance of getting cancer by prolonged work-related exposure is extremely small, the possibility that any Fernley resident will contract cancer by breathing wind generated dust is not worth distress. Also, reported in a study by the Dept of Health and Human Services-2002, only 200 – 300 silica-related cases were reported through Occupational Exposure to Crystalline Silica (T.B., Scleroderma, and Lung Cancer) during the period 1992-95; no current studies could be found.
Absolutely nothing I read gives a positive indication that NCC’s proposed Quarry will impact the health of the residents of Fernley. I do not plan on getting into a spitting match or back & forth banter, so have had my say and leave it at that. I am confident of the facts I found to be truth and encourage everyone concerned to do your own research, base your opinion on what you find. Do not let the “few” overrule your own intelligence and common sense. NCC is not out to get you, and has every intention to continue to support this community through employment of its residents and community donations. Fernley residents need to support Nevada Cement Company, by at least knowing the entire facts.
In conclusion it is my belief that a very clever person wanting to minimize the growth in his or her neighborhood came up with this undoubted “Scare Tactic,” in hoping it will defer future development. Opposing Nevada Cement Company’s project they are hoping to sway your mind into believing this is a cancer issue. I believe that after you do your own research you will come to realize that this is not the only agenda on their table.
