This FREE event is the public's opportunity to tour the UNR Greenhouse Complex, experimental wine vineyard, and bio-fuels production facilities. In addition to tours, students and faculty will be presenting their research and look forward to your questions. The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension will host Master Gardener demonstrations and “Living with Fire” exhibits. To answer the growing demands of “locally produced foods” the High Desert Farming Initiative will have representatives present to discuss techniques that extend the growing season in Northern Nevada.
As always, this year’s PLANT SALE will include a choice selection of intriguing cactus and orchids. CABNR’s own Dr. Cushman has propagated plants from our global collection to provide rare and uncommon varieties. The Cushman team will also be conducting workshops on how to transplant your purchase to ensure that you go home with a thriving specimen. Proceeds go to the plant sciences and horticulture program at UNR.
Children are also welcome with a hands-on science area, hay rides, and souvenir shingle branding. New for this year will be our solar science area, hosted by UNCE’s 4-H program and the 1st annual zucchini contest, open to all ages and hosted by UNCE Master Gardeners. Entry forms can be picked up at the main sign-in table and all entries must be submitted by 11:00am to be eligible for the grand prizes.
Also, come hungry. Lunch will be available for purchase from our own Wolf Pack Meats. This year’s menu includes a wonderful Tri-Tip plate with all the trimmings. All proceeds will go to support CABNR’s ag-related student organizations.
